Blenheim CFC Academy

2-1

Norwich City

Blenheim hosted a very strong Norwich City side this week in our return to action post lockdown. Norwich have finished in the top 3 in the national league over the last 4 seasons so the academy girls knew that they needed to be at their best to get a result.

The game started evenly with both sides cancelling each other out; a clear chance at goal was not seen until the 15th minute, when Megan hit the post after some great football from the midfield. This spurred the girls on and it was Blenheim who struck first with a composed finish into the bottom corner from Kori after a great individual run. Norwich, however, rose to the challenge and had a good spell in response to the goal. Some great defending from Leia stopped a break away goal and this was followed by a great one on one save from captain Lara. The Norwich pressure did ultimately tell though and they went into the break level after a very good strike from distance. 8

Blenheim re-grouped at half time and produced some exceptional football, creating chance after chance without being able to convert. This could have built into frustration but in true Blenheim style the girls persevered and it was Kori again who scored with a very composed finish from just inside the Norwich area.

Blenheim continued to create chances and were good value for their lead. The girls held off a late comeback with some disciplined defending in the last five minutes and secured the win to remain third in the league.

Congratulations to Chinwendu who was awarded Player of the Match.
