Year 7 House Netball Competition

Posted on: 21/04/2021

House netball was kick-started by Year 7 students on Wednesday 21st April. Students came out in force with a sea of yellow, red, blue and green bibs. There was a tense moment at the beginning of the tournament when the rules were being explained by Mrs Knight.

The whistle was blown for the first set of matches. Playing on court 1 was Tulyar versus Sinndar and on court 2 was Nashwan versus Octavius. Both games saw the ball reach the net with some daring play. The first set of matches ended with Tulyar and Sinndar drawing 1-1; Emily H scoring for Tulyar and Destini scoring for Sinndar. On court two, Octavius claimed victory against Nashwan, winning 4-3. Both Holly and Florence scored two goals each for Octavius and Emma scored two and Evan scored one for Nashwan.

With the second round of matches, it was still all to play for. On court 1, Tulyar played Octavius and on court 2, Sinndar played Nashwan. There was no stopping Tulyar, as they defeated Octavius 2 – 0, showing good team cohesion and excellent game play. Emily H and Emily P both scored one goal each. On court 2 Nashwan managed to steal the win from Sinndar, making the points nail bitingly close, with Emma and Sam scoring one goal each for Nashwan and Sofia scoring for Sinndar.

With the competition still hanging in the balance, the third and final round of matches commenced. On court 1 Tulyar played Nashwan and on court 2, Octavius played Sinndar. All the teams showed 100% effort, ensuring that each pass was accurate and that the ball would stay out of their opponent’s hands. This was very evident on court 1 with Tulyar and Nashwan playing so well, both teams found the net twice, Gabi and Emily P scoring for Tulyar and Emma scoring both for Nashwan.

Meanwhile on court 2, Sinndar just managed to sneak a goal past Octavius, leaving Sinndar the winners with a final score of 1 – 0. Sofia scored the only goal of the match. The final scores meant that ‘goals for’ would decide who came 2nd and 3rd as Nashwan and Sinndar both finished the tournament with 9 points each.

Player of the tournament was awarded to Emma of Nashwan, scoring 5 out of the 7 of Nashwan’s goals. Well done to all those who played in the tournament and thank you to Mrs Knight and Miss Bennett for making the event such a success.
