Pillars of the Community Art Project 2019

Posted on: 22/05/2019

Yesterday, a group of our arty students visited Appleby House Care Home to take part in the Pillars of the Community Art Project 2019. This project is organised by Care England as part of National Care Day, which this year is concentrating on Art due to its positive impact on wellbeing.

Jessica, Teagan, Holly and Grace from Year 7, Sienna, Hugo, Bethany and Elinor from Year 8 and Susan from Year 9 had previously submitted their designs to Appleby House's resident artist and yesterday they donned their aprons to bring the designs to life.

The students painted their designs onto the top half of prepared wooden planks, the bottom halves of which had already been designed and painted by children from Epsom Primary School. These planks will then be used to create a community pillar, which will display flowers in the colours of both schools.

Additional pillars are being created by Appleby House Care Home in conjunction with other community groups including Surrey Police, Ambulance and Fire Services.

All of the finished pillars will be displayed on Friday 28th June at the National Care Open Day at Appleby House, to which our students will be invited to see their finished masterpiece.

The children were a credit to the school and the staff at Appleby House were very impressed by their painting skills and the way they conducted themselves.
