Blenheim High School

In the second game of the league season, #teamblenheim’s Chelsea FC Girls’ football academy travelled down to the New Forrest to play AFC Bournemouth.

The game started very evenly with both teams cancelling each other out. Both sides had chances but there was not a clear-cut chance until the twenty-third minute when Amie B broke the line and played a good ball across to Megan B; her shot was blocked and the resulting corner cleared. The well organised AFC Bournemouth side prevented Blenheim settling on the ball.

The start of the second half mirrored the first with both teams looking for a foothold in the game. As time went on, it was AFC Bournemouth who looked the more likely to score, it was the spectacular performance of #teamblenheim’s back four, including player of the match Leia, and some outstanding work from goalkeeper Lara that kept the score level. It was in fact a spectacular save from Lara low to her right that sparked Blenheim into action. With urgency and determination, #teamblenheim began to get back into the game and with time running out, pushed for a winner. After 10 minutes of consistent pressure, with Blenheim twice hitting the post, we were awarded a free kick just outside the area. Captain Amelie stepped up and with composure and authority, curled the free kick over the wall and into the net for a hard fought winning goal.

Blenheim held on for the last three minutes to secure the three points and are now 3rd in the league with a game in hand. The girls host Portsmouth FC next week in the league.
