A first for the Girls' Football Academy

Posted on: 29/09/2021

Chelsea FC Blenheim 3 v 1 Worthing College

Wednesday 29th September 2021 was a historic day for the Girls’ Football academy as 2 teams were fielded in 2 different leagues; the National Football Youth league and, for the first time, the English Colleges’ Premier division.

Worthing College travelled to Blenheim as the development team kicked off their season at home.

It was a tough first 10 minutes with Worthing trying to impose their physical style on the game. To Chelsea FC Blenheim’s credit, they did not let this phase them as they passed the ball quickly and ensured they remained in possession of the ball. Worthing defended deep playing long balls regularly. It took 35 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, with Cattia scoring a beautiful goal from outside the area. It was the definition of ‘top bins!’ 5 minutes later Millie scored the second goal of the game from a corner and Chelsea FC Blenheim started to look to be in control of the game. However, with seconds to go in the first half Worthing took a free kick and managed to find the back of the net!

The late goal in the first half did not deter Chelsea FC Blenheim as they continued to dominate. Cattia added to her debut goal with a great finish with her left foot. Chelsea FC Blenheim played out the second half comfortably to gain their first ever points in the English Colleges’ Premier League.

Bromley FC 4 v 1 Chelsea FC Blenheim

In a tough fixture, that ended in defeat last year, Chelsea FC Blenheim travelled to Bromley for the third game of the National Football Youth League.

Chelsea FC Blenheim knew they would be in for a tough game but started well. Against the run of play, Bromley FC took the lead and set the pattern of the game, dominating physically and winning the midfield battle. Scoring twice more in a well organised display Bromley took a three goal lead into the second half.

The second half was a repeat of the first half, however, Chelsea FC Blenheim did make some inroads and managed to retrieve a goal back. It was the physicality and fight of Bromley that won the game. Lessons to be learnt and work to be done, as AFC Bournemouth come to Blenheim next week.
