Year 9 Basketball Tournament

Posted on: 17/03/2022

On Thursday seven Year 9 Students represented Blenheim High School at an interschool Basketball Tournament at Esher High School.

The first game was against the hosts Esher High School. Blenheim started and maintained a high level of performance throughout the match. Esher High raced into a four-point lead before Blenheim hit back with a basket of their own to make the score 4-2. Esher did eventually triumph with a three point basket that made the final score 7-2.

Blenheim’s second game of the day was against Three Rivers school. Blenheim’s performance was fantastic throughout the game. Three Rivers were limited for space, movement and opportunities to shoot. Towards the end of the game Three Rivers made some quick substitutions and hit one three pointers as well as two pointers to win the game 7-0.

Blenheim’s best performance of the day was in the third game against Ashcombe. Blenheim were excellent with and without the ball. Blenheim controlled the tempo of the game and were ruthless scoring ten unanswered points against Ashcombe and prevented Ashcombe from scoring any baskets.

The final game of the day was against St Andrew's. Blenheim’s performance in the third game rolled over to their fourth. Though St Andrew's were first to score Blenheim hit back and were 3-2 up, two thirds into the game. Unfortunately, Blenheim’s resilience in defence was broken and two quick baskets from St Andrew's saw the game finish 6-3 in their favour.

Though the Year 9 team only won one game, their performances in all four games were excellent. On another day they could have walked away with two more wins as all the games were tight. Well done guys.
