Celebrating British Science Week

Posted on: 21/03/2022

This year British National Science week celebrated the theme of ‘Growth’.

Year 7 and Year 8 students were learning about biodiversity in lessons; they had the chance to design their own sustainable farm. There were prices for the best designs in each form.

Mars week was celebrated throughout as students learned about the challenges of potentially colonising Mars. Students took part in a competition to design a model or poster to illustrate what a city on Mars would look like. The winners were Will in Year 7, Jasper and Even in Year 8 and Suzy and Poppy in Year 10.

There were also fun lunchtime activities. Year 7 and 8 students took part in paper plane competitions during break, they struggled to fold the planes at first but quickly learned how to do it. Sofia was the overall winner in Year 7 and Ellis in Year 8, although Miss James set the standard with her interpretation of a Jet plane!

The Sixth Formers had some fun with breaktime quizzes in Science and Maths as well as general knowledge. More Year 7 and 8 students took part in a ‘painting in Science’ competition where they used purple cabbage coloured filter paper and lemon juice to design pretty Mother’s Day cards.

The Science teachers dressed up on the Friday and the Sixth Form Science Prefects arranged a cake sale where they collected more than £80 for Children’s Cancer Research UK.

All in all, a fun week! Thank you for everyone that got involved.
