Joe Wicks returns to Blenheim for filming of new documentary

Posted on: 20/05/2022

We are delighted to be able to finally share the full details of our visit from Joe Wicks further to the airing of his television documentary ‘Joe Wicks: Facing my Childhood’.

In November of last year Joe returned to Blenheim High School. Joe was in the first cohort of students when Blenheim opened 25 years ago in 1997. Joe then progressed through the school as it grew by a year group each year. Miss Burton, Blenheim's Textiles Technician, was also a member of staff at this time and remembers Joe well. She created a dress many years ago to commemorate this first cohort. It is pictured below.

8NA were lucky enough to be selected to take part in the filming and took part in a ‘P.E. with Joe’ session on the school field! Mr Bodell also spent some time with Joe, welcoming him back to his school with a tour and a discussion regarding the impact that Covid and lockdown had on the mental health of Blenheim students, parents and staff.

The highly praised documentary can be viewed on BBC iplayer and shows Joe’s discovery of how his parents’ mental health issues affected him as a child and the scale of the problem of parental health today. Joe has been labelled a ’National Treasure’ following the programme’s release and we are very proud that he is part of the Blenheim Alumni.

Blenheim is a holder of the Bronze Carnegie Award for Mental Health. Mental Health and Wellbeing continue to be high on the agenda at Blenheim with several members of staff and several external practitioners actively engaging with this type of work each day. More information can be found on our website here, including Blenheim's Wellbeing guide.
