BLENHEIM HIGH 67 v 9 HINCHLEY WOOD

PLAYER OF THE MATCH: KRYSTAN

The year 11 boys' basketball team had a basketball match against Hinchley Wood on Tuesday. The team was made up of basketball boys who also study GCSE PE so that the match could be recorded and used as part of the GCSE PE moderation. Blenheim were the dominant team from the start and within seconds Knester had scored a lay-up for 2 points. This success continued with Krystan, Peter, Matthew and Mel all scoring in quick succession. The passing and spatial awareness from the team meant they could put their hard work from training into practice. Accurate and fast passing around the key opened up space for Matthew to add to the score board. The team used speed and agility to get back on defence to block passes and were first to react to any loose balls.

The second quarter saw some substitutions which added some pressure to the team to lead and communicate effectively on court. The team grew in confidence but were put under pressure by the opponent's defence. Although the passing around the 3-point line was solid and there were gaps in the opposition's defence, a lack of offensive drives meant that opportunities were missed. Many 3 pointers were attempted but not capitalised upon. After a time out and tactics given, Blenheim came out into the third quarter the more dominant side, with Krystan immediately driving forward to score a lay-up. The injection of pace was needed which played to Blenheim's strengths. Excellent defence and rebounding from Lucas kept the ball alive for Blenheim. Mel had some excellent dribbling and offensive play, dictating the pace of the game, which showed excellent leadership and dominance on the court.

The fourth quarter saw some substitutions to keep the match practice and team dynamics high and the points increasing. I am very proud of how the team played as it shows all of their hard work and effort come to fruition. The team's sportsmanship was excellent. A special mention to Ethan, Wagner and Chazon for being the table officials and cameramen.
