BLENHEIM HIGH 3 v 0 EPSOM & EWELL

Despite the cold and foggy weather, the Year 10 Boys Football team continued their dominant and captivating performances v local rivals Epsom & Ewell with a legion of loyal fans braving the cold to support their team.

Following the initial coin-toss, visitors Epsom & Ewell kicked off and demonstrated early on that they were an accomplished footballing side that could move the ball across the pitch at great pace, and Blenheim took a short while to come into the game.

Once the early stages of the first half had been played out, Blenheim began to come into their own, with Pietro anchoring the 3-man midfield impressively as the match drew on, allowing his more advanced midfield companions Mikey and Tom to operate in a threatening double-pivot that combined pace, power and passing in the middle of the park.

As the momentum of the game swung in Blenheim’s favour, they were unable to break the deadlock following some impressive saves from the visiting goalkeeper, but on the stroke of half-time Abdoul was able to steal in at the back post to finish a perfectly-weighted ball from Mikey to make the score 1-0.

Following this, Blenheim saw the first half out before regrouping and approaching the second half with a clear game plan to capitalise and score the next goal.

Although they had to work hard to do so, Blenheim did indeed grab their second as the full backs Aidan and Billy progressed play down the wings repeatedly before the game opened up and allowed centre forward Prince to rifle a shot into the top right corner, far beyond the goalkeeper’s reach.

Epsom & Ewell, to their credit, did push for a route back into the game but the formidable centre back pairing of Alfie and captain Finn ensured that there was no way through as substitutes entered the fray including a debut performance from Kiros who injected considerably pace and energy into a tiring back four as well as the tireless Harry who came on in defensive midfield to break up play before switching to the left wing and providing a series of fantastic passes down the left hand side.

This culminated with him delivering a searching ball across the box which was duly tapped home by Tom, who worked hard for his goal all game, which secured what proved to be a comprehensive 3-0 victory against some very challenging opposition.
