Under 14 Girls' football team walk into the finals!Posted on: 23/02/2018
Our Girls' Under 14 football team have reached the final of the English Schools Football Association Under 14 National Cup!
They played Downlands Community School in the semi-final of the ESFA Girls Under 14 Playstation Football Cup at home here at Blenheim on 23rd February.
In what was our closest game of the season, the girls dominated possession of the ball with their trademark quick passing but against the run of play the girls found themselves 1-0 down after a quick break away from Downlands Community School. Two great goals from Amelie and Rebecca meant that Blenheim briefly led the game but this lead was short lived with Downlands responding from a corner, taking the teams in to half time deadlocked with 2 goals each.
Blenheim girls started the second half tentatively and Downlands regained the lead with another quick break away within two minutes of the restart making it 2-3. The score and pattern of the match stayed the same with Blenheim causing the Downlands' defenders numerous problems but the girls struggled to convert their chances into girls, until Blenheim sparked into life with 12 minutes remaining. Bronte crafted an equaliser with a clever finish bringing Blenheim level and from this point it only ever looked like the match was going one way. Blenheim played clinical football and broke through the Downlands defence and clinched victory with Bronte slotting home in a dramatic finish with 3 minutes left on the clock.
We are so proud of the girls and having won through 8 rounds of the cup they will now go on to play in the English Schools Football Association Under 14 National Cup Final in May.
