Careers Guest Speaker in Health and Fitness

Posted on: 28/02/2024

Thank you to Paul Bishop for coming into the year 9 Health and Fitness class to speak to students

about career pathways into personal training and beyond. Throughout the session students were

engaged and had the opportunity to ask questions to help link the content and structure of the

Health and Fitness course to real life scenarios.

Paul shared his aims of personal training and working with a range of clients to help them

achieve their fitness goals, whether this involved becoming more active, building muscle, losing

weight, increasing suppleness and stamina or improving over all wellbeing. Paul also shared his

experience of sports rehabilitation and massage when working with elite athletes as well as with

his clients.

Both students and teachers alike were inspired by his career path as an International cyclist for

Great Britain, working with elite cricket players in Zimbabwe, elite tennis players and elite UK

athletes as well as his own clients to complete half and whole iron mans in Finland consisting of a

5 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride followed by running 26.2 mile marathon. It was also interesting to

hear about Paul’s career with McClaren F1 team where he worked with the Pit Stop crew as well

as drivers on their strength and conditioning to meet the demands of this exhilarating sport.

Paul shared fitness industry tips and life skills from gyms and personal training of the importance

of networking, communication, organisation, time management and building positive

relationships with clients. Students also gained an understanding of business management

including setting up a fitness business, building a client base and financial management of

salaries, equipment, tax returns and flexible working.

Thank you Paul for an amazing careers talk. We look forward to welcoming him back in the

future.
