Transition to Blenheim is an exciting but also potentially daunting time. We have outlined below details of our comprehensive Transition Programme which is designed to ensure that your child feels welcome and settled at our school.
Parent and Student Welcome Evening and Showcase
Tuesday, 5th May 2020
This is an opportunity for us to welcome you and your child to the Blenheim Community, answer any questions that you may have and experience a student showcase. You will also have an introduction to the iPad for Learning Scheme as well as meeting myself and other key members of staff.
Transition Taster Sessions
To help your child settle into Blenheim Life, we are offering a selection of ‘Transition Taster Sessions’ after school in June. There will be 12 sessions ranging from Science to Food Tech and PE to Art, all run by the specific subject teachers. We will write to you once you have your place giving you instructions on how to sign up for these events. When you come to collect your child at 4.30pm you will be invited in for tea/coffee in the canteen where there will also be a second-hand uniform sale and an opportunity to speak with Mrs Chalke, our Head of Digital Learning, who oversees the iPad for Learning Scheme.
New Parents’ Information Evening
Monday, 29th June 2020
This an opportunity to meet the Head of Year 7 and the Year 7 form tutor team along with our teaching staff and become more familiar with the school. You will find out more about what «Forename» will be doing during their Induction Day, which tutor group they will be in and more detailed information about their start in September.
Students' Induction Day
Tuesday, 30th June 2020
Our new students are invited to an Induction Day on Tuesday 30th June 2020 where they will get to know their peers and Form Tutors but also have a fun taster of what life at Blenheim will offer them. The day will start at 9.15am and students should come directly to the main entrance and register in the canteen before moving into the Main Hall. The Induction Day will finish at approximately 2.30pm when students can be collected from the Main Reception or the Student Entrance (depending on their tutor group).
Primary School Visits
Students from our larger feeder schools will receive a visit from our Pastoral Team in the Summer Term prior to their joining us. This is an opportunity for your child to meet the team in a comfortable and familiar environment and also gives our staff an opportunity to talk to their current class teacher.
Similarly, for our SEN and EAL students, our SEN department will visit any child who has an EHCP in their primary setting. The SEN department will also be running a ‘getting to know you’ session here at Blenheim High School for the Year 6’s and their current LSA’s to aid the transition process so it is as smooth as possible.
First Day of School
Students should come to the Main Reception where they will be met by their form tutors and other members of staff and taken into the hall for a Welcome Assembly. Students will then be in their tutor groups for the day and will receive their Student Diaries and timetables. If you have consented to your child having his/her biometric fingerprint taken, these will be taken on the first day. It takes a couple of days for the fingerprint system to be actioned so parents are kindly asked to provide students with a packed lunch for the rest of the week.
During the first week at Blenheim we offer a staggered entry and also adjust our timetable and lesson rooms in order for our new Year 7's to gradually get to know the building, classrooms but more importantly, us and each other.
Students are not required to bring their P.E. kits on the first day.
Please refer to your Parent and Student Guides for information about equipment required.
Year 7 Parents' Information Evening
Parents will be invited to a further information evening at the start of the new term in September.
