International Link School
In 2009 Blenheim High School created a partnership with Kisumu Day High School located in Kisumu, Western Kenya. The link funded by the British Council has enabled the schools to create a joint curriculum project whereby teaching practice is shared across the two schools. The pupils in both schools regularly communicate and learn about each other’s cultures, traditions and life styles from the shared resources. We have enjoyed our collaboration immensely and below are reviews of the exchanges in which we have participated.
We were delighted to welcome six visitors from our International Link Schools in Kenya to Blenheim from 10th to 25th October organised by Mrs. Charles. Mr. Mark Origa and Ms Pamela Okul came from Kisumu Day High School and St. Joseph’s Miranga Secondary School. They brought Francis and Ephie and Moses and John Troon from their schools on their first ever trip out of Kenya. The group were welcomed warmly into our community and quickly became absorbed in the learning activities that we have on offer at Blenheim. This reminded us of how fortunate we all are to be surrounded by such amazing facilities and learning opportunities.
Springs Ministries Orphanage in Kenya
Blenheim students in the Textiles department, under the guidance of Mrs Sue Burton, made twenty little dresses for the girls at the Orphanage.
The girls were thrilled to receive these dresses and they were the first new dresses that they had ever received.
Microscopes and a Chemical Balance for St. Joseph's
We are delighted to report that the Year 10s did an amazing fundraising event making and selling cakes during break times. This was after a moving assembly showing the lack of Science equipment and facilities at our second link school St Joseph’s Miranga Secondary School in Kenya. Our students’ overwhelming response was a desire to contribute to their counterparts’ education in Kenya with additional equipment and to enhance their facilities.
This has resulted in us being able to send out to Kenya ten microscopes and a chemical balance.
