Chelsea FC Blenheim U19 Girls

On a warm and still day, the Chelsea Football academy girls travelled to Portsmouth FC to play in their second game of the week in the National Football Youth League.

After losing on Wednesday, the order of the day was to start quickly and that is exactly what the girls did, with Caitlin and Kori scoring in the first four minutes to put Blenheim 2-0 up and potentially in control. The girls could have been forgiven for sitting back and assuming the job was done, but there was no risk of “going through the motions” as the girls played some excellent football, having three goals chalked off for close offside calls and hitting the post twice. For all their domination, it took until the 30 minute mark before the next chance was converted by Megan after some excellent work from Cassie at left back.

Half time came and went and within three passes of kick off Megan was bearing down on goal and slotting home her second and Blenheim’s fourth of the afternoon. With a shift in formation, Captain, Amelie, returned to the centre of midfield and kept the emphasis moving forward and it was her pass that released Amie B down the right hand side to score Blenheim’s 5th goal. Amelie then hit a shot from distance that looped in to the goal and set up a free scoring end to the game. Five minutes later, Kori scored after a great team build up involving Caitlin and Amie. Cassie provided the next goal with an exquisite through ball, Amelie breaking from midfield tucked it home with a composed left footed finish. It was Amelie who completed the scoring, with a good individual run and strike to round off the goals giving her a hat trick, and Blenheim a deserved 9-0 victory.
