Launching Science Club for 2022!

Posted on: 14/01/2022

Eighteen year 7 and year 8 students’ and two, Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh volunteers arrived in Curie on Wednesday for Science Club. We are investigating Energy in Food this half term, with the view of producing our very own healthy snack bar.

We started off by investigating the energy in various different crisps which involved setting light to them using a Bunsen burner, and placing them under a boiling tube of water to find out how much the temperature rose. Hula Hoops and Wheat Crunchies made the temperature rise the most, so they had the most energy in them.

Next week Mrs Skinner will introduce the types of ingredients used by snack bar companies and students will have to choose which ones they would like to put into their snack bar. Students will have to decide which ingredients are the healthiest and tastiest, but also the most freely available and cheapest. What would you choose?
