GCSE Drama Trip to see Blood Brothers

Posted on: 10/02/2026

Year 11 GCSE Drama students attended the 'Yvonne Arnaud Theatre' in Guildford, to see the

powerful all time classic musical 'Blood Brothers.' The production explored the themes of social

class, poverty, friendship, loyalty, fate, superstition and finally, nature verses nurture. The

production had a record-breaking West-End run of 24 years. Although the London production

ended in 2012, the show has continued to be a popular favourite with the Blood Brothers cast

currently touring the UK.

The plot follows the genre of a tragicomedy about twin brothers who were separated at birth

and the different lifestyles they endure growing up in such different families. The playwright 'Willy

Russell' asks several questions of the audience, particularly about how equal our society is.

Furthermore, exposing the socio-political issues connected to how much our life experiences

affect the opportunities we have in life.

The theatre trip was aimed at supporting the Year 11 students with their upcoming GCSE mocks

and actual GCSE, as it will be a set text within their written paper. Thank you to the Drama

Department and parents, for their support in making the trip the success that it was. As usual,

the students were a credit to Blenheim and an enjoyable evening was had by all.
