Sixth Form Trip to Geneva

Posted on: 05/02/2026

Sixth Form Science students from Years 12 and 13 took part in an unforgettable trip to Geneva, organised by Ms Alam and accompanied by Mr Brooks and Miss Fleck. The visit offered students the chance to experience science, culture and international collaboration first-hand. After a (very!) early morning flight on Friday, the visit began with a scenic cruise on Lake Geneva, providing a striking introduction to the city. Over the course of the weekend, students explored some of Geneva’s most significant scientific and humanitarian landmarks, combining curriculum-linked enrichment with wider global understanding.

On Saturday morning, students visited CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research. Students spent time
exploring CERN’s detailed and interactive exhibitions, learning more about antimatter, particle acceleration and the work of the Large Hadron Collider. The exhibitions gave students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of key A-level
concepts and see the scale and ambition of modern scientific research.

Later that day, site seeing took place in Geneva’s Old Town for some free time, and plenty of Swiss chocolate was purchased. In the evening, students enjoyed a traditional Swiss meal at Edelweiss Restaurant, sampling authentic local cuisine, including fondue. There was a further treat provided with live entertainment featuring yodelling and the alphorn, which added a fun and memorable cultural touch to the evening.

Sunday began with a visit to the International Red Cross Museum, where students explored powerful exhibits on humanitarian response, medical ethics and the global impact of conflict. The experience sparked reflective conversations about ethics in science and international responsibility. This was followed by a guided walking tour of Geneva’s Old Town, offering a rich historical overview of the city and its significance in European intellectual life. Students then enjoyed some free time to explore, shop and take in the sights before heading to the airport for the journey home.

The students were a credit to the school at every stage of the trip. Their enthusiasm, behaviour and curiosity were noted by all staff and reflected the very best of Blenheim. We are incredibly proud of them and look forward to continuing to offer inspirational international opportunities that extend learning far beyond the classroom.

A huge thanks to Ms Alam for organising this inspirational trip and to Mr Brooks for giving his time to help make it happen.
