Year 7 Boys Football Tournament

PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT - LIAM

The Year 7 Boys' team competed in a Seven a side Tournament that took place at Epsom and Ewell High School. There were seven other teams involved including Hinchley Wood A, Hinchley Wood B, Three Rivers, Ashcombe, Therfield, Epsom and Ewell A and Epsom and Ewell B.

Blenheim started their first match against Hinchley Wood A. The beginning of the game was very even, with both Hinchley Wood A and Blenheim enjoying good possession in each other’s half. Blenheim did go close with Liam hitting the frame of the goal, however, shortly after this Hinchley wood took the lead with a curling shot that Eli was unable to keep out. Blenheim were further than pegged back with Hinchley Wood A scoring another goal in quick succession to take them 2-0 up. Blenheim did rally and were able to score through Ivan, however the game then finished 2-1 to Hinchley Wood A.

The second game was against Three Rivers. This game was well contested between the two teams with chances at both ends, however neither team could convert their chances, with the game finishing 0-0.

Blenheim’s next game started out against Ashcombe. Ashcombe defended very well throughout the game with Blenheim constantly applying high pressure every time that Ashcombe received the ball in their half. Archie A was especially efficient causing Ashcombe to lose the ball multiple times. Eventually this paid off with Liam securing possession high up the pitch and scoring to put Blenheim 1-0 up. This score line remained the same until the end of the match.

Blenheim were straight back out against Hinchley Wood B. with tails up and a confidence boost from winning the last game, Blenheim were out of the traps fast and immediately placing pressure on Hinchley Wood B, forcing them into a mistake and Blenheim capitalising through Liam to go 1-0 up in the game. Blenheim continued with this high pressure and were unlucky not to score any more goals in the game. However, Blenheim did secure the win.

Onto Blenheim’s next game where they came up against Therfield. This game similar to Three Rivers was equal throughout with neither team giving much away in attack or defence. The game finished 0-0 and Blenheim walked away with a point.

Blenheim’s last two games were a double header against Epsom and Ewell A and B. Against Epsom and Ewell A Blenheim dominated in large parts and were the much better team, unfortunately Epsom and Ewell A were able to score a goal and hold onto a lead to secure a 1-0 win and only a second loss for Blenheim on the day. The second half of the double header against Epsom and Ewell kicked off with Epsom and Ewell’s B team securing possession straight away. Blenheim looked to play a high press against Epsom and Ewell B to secure possession high up the field and look to create scoring opportunities. Perhaps feeling aggrieved by their loss against the Epsom and Ewell A team Blenheim were ruthless and clinical scoring three goals; one from Ivan, Archie A and Archie P, resulting in a 3-0 win to Blenheim.

Blenheim finished second to Ashcombe who had one defeat, against Blenheim the entire tournament.

The team was brilliant throughout the tournament and player of the tournament from Blenheim was Liam who scored two goals.

Team: Eli, Jack, Ivan, Liam, Archie P, Rhys, Archie A, Herkus and Nathan.
