BLENHEIM HIGH 3 v 4 ASHCOMBE SCHOOL

This week the Year 8 Boys' Football team had a league match against Ashcombe school in Dorking. After a heavy downpour of rain, the pitch was muddy making it difficult for the players to change direction and put speed onto the ball. Despite the conditions, Blenheim dominated in the early stages and came agonisingly close from early attempts on goal by Harry and Ben. A smartly worked through ball by Jacob found its way to Harrison who managed to score off the right post to take the lead. Blenheim found themselves complacent as the game became an even affair with Ashcombe building up a high pass count in dangerous areas of the pitch. They managed to score 3 goals in a 15-minute window consisting of a long-range shot, a free kick and a counterattack just before half-time.

Blenheim needed a reaction and with a steady platform at the back with Riley, Euan and Ryan they managed to turn defence into attack. Moments into the second half, Oscar managed to flick a well-weighted pass to Harrison who scored his second of the match to make it 3-2 to our hosts. And moments later, Fin whipped a wide pass outside of the penalty area for Oscar to find the back of the net and the equaliser. Unfortunately, in the last 5 minutes of play a long ball played into the box found an unmarked Ashcombe player to take the game out of reach finishing the game 4-3.

Comparing last year's results, the players agreed on the improvements they have made throughout this season and areas to work on. Well played to all those involved as they look forward to next week.
