Year 7 Boys’ Basketball – Surrey Schools’ WINNERS!

Posted on: 27/02/2020

#teamblenheim’s Year 7 Basketball team took part in their final tournament of the season with the incentive of qualifying for the Elite Eight Competition hanging in the balance; a tournament that Blenheim has not qualified for previously. #teamblenheim were incredibly excited about this opportunity however, the first match against Richard Challoner resulted in a 16-9 defeat. The chance of qualifying looked slim as Blenheim’s next opponents, Woking High, had already beaten Lanfranc and Richard Challoner. If Blenheim were going to have any chance of qualifying then they would have to beat an impressive Woking High team. To their credit, the boys performed heroically winning 9 – 7; a huge achievement.

Blenheim now needed to beat Lanfranc in their final game to finish first and qualify for the Elite Eight Competition. Blenheim’s confidence and determination was sky high in this final match and they finished victors defeating Lanfranc 13-7. A combination of great teamwork, resilience and enthusiasm with no little amount of skill were the key to this impressive display. This means that #teamblenheim have secured a place in the Elite Eight Competition which will take place on 11th of March.

To qualify for the Elite Eight Competition is a huge achievement for the team and just rewards for all of their hard work to date. Well done to the team for all they have achieved since September. Finally, congratulations to Toby and Finley who were both awarded Player of the Competition for Blenheim.
