CFCs final game of 2020

AFC Sudbury

2-0

Blenheim CFC Academy

#TeamBlenheim travelled to AFC Sudbury in the final game of 2020.

It was Blenheim who started the brightest against a Sudbury side who we beat convincingly in the first game of the season, but the first chance was not created until the 25th minute. Some excellent football from Blenheim saw Megan through on goal and it was only some brave goalkeeping that kept the score at 0-0.

Four minutes later and it was AFC Sudbury who broke the deadlock, being awarded a penalty after a fairly innocuous challenge from Blenheim Player of the Match, Leia. The penalty was duly converted, and the momentum swung Sudbury’s way. It was only two good saves from Blenheim’s captain, Lara, which kept the score at 1-0.

The pattern of the game did not change after half time with Sudbury mopping up Blenheim’s attacks and playing directly to try and turn the Blenheim defence. Blenheim did have two half chances with Sasha and Megan unable to convert. It was Sudbury who scored the decisive goal with 15 minutes left after a shot from the edge of the area evaded the grasp of Lara and nestled in the goal.

Blenheim looked for a goal in the last ten minutes with some sustained pressure but it was Sudbury who took the three points. The defeat leaves Blenheim third in the league with our next game away to Portsmouth on the 16th January 2021.

Recruitment for September 2021 is well underway and the next trial, currently scheduled for Monday 21st December 2020, has 34 girls booked on it. It is likely that the academy will field an A and B team next season.
