Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

Posted on: 02/05/2022

On the 30th April, 34 year 9 students embarked on their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh training expedition in the sunshine of the Surrey Hills.

During the day, students learned how to properly unpack and repack their bags, map read, plan routes, properly adjust bearings, use a Trangia to cook an evening meal and put up tents to get a well-deserved rest.

All of this learning was then put in to practice on the practice expedition walk on Sunday 1st May. After camping overnight, the students set off on a five hour walk from our campsite to a location in the Surrey Hills. Each group chose a different route, and had to work as a team to overcome obstacles and reach six checkpoints along the way. Every student passed their training and were commended by the expedition leaders on their diligence and work ethic.

Well done to the first half of Blenheim's Year 9 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh cohort, and good luck for the qualifying expedition.
