Maths in Action Trip

Posted on: 08/09/2022

Mr Everest, Mr Wilkinson and Ms Meimari accompanied 37 of the top mathematicians in year 8 to a careers and maths themed trip to Epsom Racecourse on Thursday 8th September. The event was hosted by the charity “Racing To Schools” which aims to inspire young people into a career in Horse Racing and offer exciting realworld contextual links to their curriculum.

Students spent the day at Epsom Racecourse attending the penultimate race meet of the season. Event hosts from the “Racing To Schools” team were comprised of Jockeys and equestrian trainers. This provided students with excellent exposure to industry professionals. Parallel to this, students met with race officials and groundsman to discuss their roles and careers pathways.

Throughout the day, dressed in official Jockey jerseys, students participated in Horse Racing themed maths challenges involving running races on the official track, observing and recording the Parade Ring process and operating the scales in the Jockey weighing room. Students had unlimited access to the site and were treated to an Executive Suite for lunch and to watch three races.

This was an excellent day enjoyed by all with the thunder, lightning and rain unable to dampen spirits. Well done #teamBlenheim!
