House Results - FIFA, Netball and Masterchef!

Posted on: 10/02/2023

This half-term’s House Competition has been a wonderful way to welcome in the new year, with countless students participating in our three main House Events; House Benchball, House FIFA & the return of the ever-popular House MasterChef. Once again, it was fantastic to see so many students from every single Year group participating in the various events and supporting one another to succeed, all in the name of (mostly!) friendly competition.

The House FIFA Competition began the half-term’s proceedings, with Year 7 up first on Friday 13th January. All four Houses (Nashwan, Octavius, Sinndar & Tulyar) were well represented with a mixture of boys and girls eager to earn points for their respective House. The general quality of competition was very high, and it soon became apparent that lots of training had gone into delivering such accomplished performances on the latest edition of the FIFA franchise, FIFA 23. With goals aplenty and some wild celebrations delivered both in-game and in real life, it made for a thoroughly enjoyable tournament, and certainly caused a scene down the end of the English Corridor where the tournament was held every Friday throughout the half-term!

Our House Benchball Competition also ran throughout the half-term, with Year 7 up first in early January. Following a brief re-cap of the rules, and mass deliberation over who started on the bench for each team, all Houses competed in a round-robin tournament. The full results are detailed below.

Another highlight of the half-term was the sheer volume of students that entered the House MasterChef Competition on Tuesday 17th January.

Each team; Nashwan, Octavius, Sinndar and Tulyar, was comprised of a range of students that worked together to plan, create and serve their choice of two dishes – one main dish and one starter or dessert. The atmosphere in the Food Tech department was bustling and promptly after the conclusion of period 6 students flocked down to begin their mise-en-place within their teams once all of the ingredients had been handed out.

Some teams opted to focus on one dish at a time, finalising the majority of the main dish as a team before moving onto their dessert whereas some Houses opted to determine two separate teams of chefs – one for main and one for dessert!

Despite the obvious competitive element, students worked collaboratively across teams to offer advice and share ingredients, as well as working exceptionally well within their teams despite the obvious time pressures.

Overall it was a brilliant event and a real delight to see a huge range of our students working together to achieve a collective goal with fantastic team spirit.

After an intense tasting session undertaken by the judges, including everything from bruschetta, to pizza, to prosciutto-wrapped chicken, to gammon-steak-melts, to chiffon cakes, to cupcakes, to tropical mess, at long last a winner was determined!
The final scores are noted below.
