Great Big Dance Off National Finals

Posted on: 26/06/2023

On Monday 26th June, the KS5 Dance competition team travelled to Cheltenham Town Hall to perform at the Great Big Dance Off National Finals. After qualifying in 2nd place at the London Regional competition in January, the students have worked tirelessly to edit and perfect the choreography. The National Finals comprise of secondary schools, who have placed 1st or 2nd in the multiple regional competitions across the country, battling it out to become National champions. It was a very early wake up but the 11 girls in Years 12 and 13 were filled with high spirits and brought lots of energy to the minibus.

Upon arrival we were faced with a slight dilemma; the stage was much smaller than anticipated and meant after our rehearsal, we had to change some formations and even some movement to fit the staging. The girls adapted to this excellently and showed real professionalism. The standard of dance was extremely high but instead of letting this phase them, the students let it drive them to perform their absolute best. They were nothing short of outstanding the entire day; they were positive, polite and excellent role models for Blenheim. They performed a highly technical contemporary routine with so much passion that it made Miss Le Prevost cry!

I'm extremely pleased to say that the KS5 Team came a fantastic 7th out of 20 in their category. There were 3judges each scoring out of 100 and we scored a brilliant total score 242 out of 300. 6th place scored 244, so only 2 marks difference. One of the judges gave us the 3rd highest individual score of the competition awarding us 94/100! We have not competed at National level before, so this is a phenomenal result and we are so proud of the students. We're looking forward to entering the Regional competitions again next year and hopefully will return to the National Finals too.
