U15 Girls National Football Cup

Posted on: 05/10/2023

It was a very unfortunate loss for the u15 Girls as they played Esher High School in the first round of the National Cup.

BLENHEIM 2 v 5 ESHER HIGH

Blenheim started brilliantly, with Florence receiving a through ball from our midfield, leading to her being 1 on1 with the keeper and calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net, giving Blenheim the lead within 42seconds of the game starting. Both teams then began to get more into the game with Blenheim receiving a lot more pressure and less time on the ball whilst Esher began to find the long ball over the defence. It was Esher who took their chances and got a goal back with a great shot on target to make the score 1-1. Blenheim continued to play their football with Holly and Evie B finding space in the middle to drive with options out wide, and Florence being really unlucky hitting the crossbar twice with one shot. As they were reaching half time the girls began to look fatigued, which Esher took to their advantage and continued to tire our defence out with the long balls, managing to gain another goal minutes before half time to make it 2-1.

Blenheim were ready to go again after getting a rest and changing positions around during half time. For the first 15 minutes Blenheim dominated and continuously looked to attack having several shots on goal, whilst eliminating the threat from Esher behind the back line. The girls then took their chance with Leah showing great composure to receive the ball from a goal kick and drive into the attacking space in front of her before finding Holly's feet. As encouraged during half time Holly then took a strike on goal resulting in the equaliser to make the score 2-2. Both teams were then eager to get the next goal with Tilly having a shot on goal and Esher counter attacking which the defence to make some crucial tackles. It was Esher who were the most successful in front of goal taking the lead again after driving into the box and managing to get a shot on target.. As the game continued at a high intensity, fatigue began to show for Blenheim again leading to mistakes happening, whilst Esher had subs available which they used to their advantage with fresh legs on the pitch and a constant press on the girls. Esher were able to score 2 goals within a short period of time to end the game 5-2.

All the girls should be very proud of the effort and resilience they showed during the match especially playing the game with 10 players. There were some great positives to take and things to work on for their upcoming fixtures.
