Year 7 Boys Football Tournament

Posted on: 03/10/2023

This week nine Year 7 Students attended a 7 aside tournament at Three Rivers Academy. Blenheim were drawn into a group that contained Three Rivers, Hinchley Wood A, Hinchley Wood B, Heathside and Therfield.

Blenheim 0 v 0 Three Rivers

The first game Blenheim were drawn against Three Rivers. The game kicked off with both teams cancelling each other outwith some strong defending and a combative midfield. Both teams had opportunities to score however with only 8 Minutes per game time ran out and the first game finished 0-0.

Blenheim 0 v 1 Hinchley Wood B

Blenheim’s second opponents were Hinchley Wood B. This game like the first saw lots of passing and moving in the midfield, but both defences were on top. Just as it seemed that this game was going to also finish as a draw, Hinchley Wood B came up with a goal with only a minute left to spare, a good turn and finish from just outside the penalty box. This game finished 1-0 to Hinchley Wood B.

Blenheim 3 v 0 Hinchley Wood A

It was Déjà vu as Blenheim’s next game was against Hinchley Wood A. This game started after a brief chat was had with the boys and a change of tactics and formation was used in this game. Blenheim started well and planned to play on the counter against Hinchley Wood A. This came to fruition with Elijah getting on the score sheet with a neat one on one finish past the goalkeeper. The counter attacking tactic seemed to be working with Joseph also picking up two goals, with this game finishing 3-0 to Blenheim.

Blenheim 0 v 1 Heathside

Buoyed on by this win Blenheim took on Heathside School. Blenheim were happy to continue to use the counter attacking tactic that had been successful in the previous match. This often-created opportunities for Blenheim to get onto the score sheet, however Blenheim were unable to take their chances. As the game seemed destined for another draw Heathside were able to pick up the ball in midfield, run at Blenheim’s defence and score the crucial goal that gave Heathside a 1-0 win.

Blenheim 0 v 0 Therfield

Blenheim’s final group game was against Therfield. This game was played at break neck speed, with a win for Blenheim propelling them possibly into a first versus second play off match to decide the winner of the tournament. Unfortunately, for all of the positive play that Blenheim demonstrated, they were unable to force a goal and settled for a 0-0 draw.

Following the conclusion of the round robin, Blenheim were drawn into the “Europa League” Final to decide Third and Forth place against Three Rivers, our hosts. This game like the first encounter was dominated by strong defences and combative midfields. Blenheim continued with the counter attacking tactic, with balls being played up front as soon as possession was turned over. Blenheim had the opportunity to score throughout the match, however with only two minutes remaining Three Rivers got their goal, with a smart turn from the Three Rivers striker followed by a strong finish. Blenheim pushed fora equaliser but couldn’t find one. Blenheim finished in Fourth place having won one, drawn two and lost two.
