Year 10 Boys Football Match

Blenheim 0 v 0 St Andrew’s

After a string of successful training sessions at the start of term, the Year 10 boys football team welcomed St Andrew’s on a rainy Thursday afternoon in an effort to complete our pre-season preparations. With a cup tie away in Kent the following week, the team were looking to impress ahead of their big away day. The game acted as a final trial and a chance for Mr Lewis to watch the team gel and play together for the first time. All who had previously attended training were welcome- giving Blenheim a squad of over 20 players. We set up in a 4-3-3 formation that sought to exploit the flanks and get in behind the opposition defence.

The match began with a quick tempo that was dictated by the Blenheim midfield three, who immediately pushed the ball out wide to Ellis and Eduardo.

Gustavo lead the line, with Daniel following up behind him with supporting attacks from midfield. The team began shooting on site in an effort to break down the St Andrew’s defence, with really promising build-up play that would unfortunately not include the glistening final ball.

Two shining performances in the team came from Thomas in goal and Harry as a stand in left back. Both boys presented a calm efficiency in their roles while also moving the ball quickly forwards to generate attacks from the back.

At half time the score remained goalless, but it had provided plenty of opportunity to understand play roles and tactics that needed tweaking. As the first time the boys had played altogether this season, the performance was very promising.
