Year 7 bring the Tempest to life with West-End in Schools
Posted on: 05/03/2026This week, our Year 7 cohort enjoyed an inspiring Shakespeare workshop delivered by the brilliant team from West-End in Schools. Building on their recent study of The Tempest, ninety students took part in a dynamic and imaginative exploration of the play, transforming our school hall into a world of shipwrecks, spirits and stormy seas. The workshop gave pupils the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Shakespeare’s language, themes and characters through practical drama activities. Guided by a professional theatre practitioner, students experimented with movement, voice and performance techniques to bring key moments of the text vividly to life. Their enthusiasm was evident from the outset, with each group demonstrating curiosity, creativity and a willingness to step confidently into the world of Prospero, Miranda and the magical island. For many students, this was their first experience of working with a theatre specialist from the West End, and it proved to be both enriching and memorable. The workshop not only reinforced their classroom learning but also encouraged teamwork, empathy and active engagement with literature. Pupils embraced the challenge with energy and joy, discovering new interpretations of the play and gaining a deeper appreciation for Shakespeare’s enduring relevance. Teachers were delighted to see how fully Year 7 participated, and the feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive. Many shared that the workshop helped them understand the text in new ways, while others particularly enjoyed the chance to collaborate and perform with their peers. We are proud of how confidently and thoughtfully our Year 7s represented the school throughout the session. Their enthusiasm for The Tempest has been a pleasure to witness, and we look forward to seeing how this experience enriches their continued journey through English literature. A huge thank you to West-End in Schools for bringing Shakespeare’s world so vividly into ours.
