Year 8 Speed Networking Careers Event
Posted on: 02/03/2026The Careers Speed Networking event took place earlier this week marking an exciting new initiative for the school aiming to broaden students’ understanding of the world of work.
The school welcomed a diverse group of professionals who generously volunteered their time to support this programme and engage directly with students. The event was designed to give students a fastâpaced, interactive introduction to a wide range of careers. During each rotation, students had four minutes to ask professionals a series of questions, to which the professionals could respond only with ‘Yes’, ‘No’, or ‘Sometimes’. Students then attempted to guess the professional’s career based on these clues.
In the following four minutes, each professional revealed their role and provided an overview of what a typical day or week involves, highlighting key responsibilities, essential skills, and the academic pathways commonly associated with their profession. This structure encouraged curiosity, critical thinking and active engagement from students. Students approached the sessions with enthusiasm, using their limited questioning time to gather clues and make informed guesses about each professional’s career. The reveal phase prompted lively discussion and gave students valuable insight into the realities of different roles, from required qualifications to workplace challenges and rewards.
The Careers Speed Networking event successfully created a dynamic and supportive environment in which students could explore potential career paths. With representation from fields such as law, engineering, healthcare, IT, business and the creative industries, students were introduced to a broad spectrum of opportunities they might not have previously considered.
The school extends its sincere thanks to all participating professionals for contributing to the success of this new initiative. Their involvement played a vital role in inspiring students and helping them make more informed decisions about their future aspirations.
