Junior Model United Nations Conference
Posted on: 13/05/2026The United Nations was founded after World War II as an organisation where all the world’s nations can
discuss and debate the pressing issues of the day, with the intention to find solutions in the interests of the
global community.
In Model United Nations, students debate current affairs, while representing different nations. This is a
stimulating academic activity as students are often arguing from the viewpoint of a country whose stance
might be different from their personal view. They develop excellent skills in research, presentation and
debate which equips them for the world of further study and of work. At a conference many different
schools are represented and students have an excellent opportunity to collaborate with others and debate
against them.
On Saturday 9th May, four students took part in a Key Stage 3 MUN conference at Reigate Grammar School.
The day began with a workshop on what makes a good speech. Students then went to their committee
rooms to begin debating. Blenheim was representing North Korea which was a tough challenge and they
had to work on building alliances with other countries to get their views heard.
Congratulations to Austin who won a commended delegate award for his contributions to the Spec Pol
committee and also spoke confidently at the general assembly in front of the whole conference.
All of our delegation made a fantastic contribution. We are so proud of all of them as they demonstrated
excellent academic skills when researching, forming arguments and engaging with debate. These are
complex and challenging topics to grapple with. They confidently worked with students from other schools
and in doing so they developed valuable team work and networking skills.
I was so impressed with them!
