The Great Big Dance Off Competition (London Regional Championship) – CHAMPIONS!

Posted on: 15/01/2020

Blenheim students, in conjunction with the Propel Dance Company competed in the first major dance competition of the academic year. ‘The Great Big Dance Off’ is a huge competition with regional heats taking place across England from January to April. This year’s London heats took place at The Beck Theatre in Hayes with 20 schools competing.

Blenheim’s Dance squad was made up of 11 students in Years 7, 8 & 9, all of whom performed exceptionally well on Monday evening. The girls were quite nervous before performing, but once costume and make up was completed, they really felt and looked the part. The three minute choreography was titled ‘Survivor’ and was based on bullying. The girls conveyed, through their well-choreographed routine, how we can overcome and survive hurtful words that are said and how by working together we can show bravery and stand up to bullying.

The girls performed with high energy and with real emotion, which made them stand out to the judges. Their contemporary dance technique was outstanding. This coupled with an equally powerful message resulted in Blenheim being crowned champions from the 20 competing schools.

Months of hard work paid off and Blenheim are now Key Stage 3 Regional Champions 2020, qualifying for the National Finals in June. This is a huge achievement for Blenheim Dance and Propel Dance Company. Congratulations to all the students and to Blenheim’s Dancer of the Competition, Joely, for an outstanding, energetic performance.
