AFC Bournemouth

Chelsea FC Blenheim

Chelsea FC Blenheim Academy travelled down to the south coast to take on AFC Bournemouth in the National Football Youth League. The reverse fixture had been an 8-3 loss so it was a real chance to gauge our progress since a disappointing start to the season.

On a typical winter’s pitch, it was Chelsea FC Blenheim who started brightly and created chances in the first 10 minutes. However, AFC Bournemouth changed how they pressed the ball and this caused the girls some issues as the half progressed. Chelsea FC Blenheim held their own but with 30 seconds of the half left, AFC Bournemouth opened the scoring to leave Chelsea FC Blenheim 1-0 down at half time.

The girls rallied after half time and a purposeful powerful display was the outcome. Koro scored the goal that bought Blenheim level. However, AFC Bournemouth were a constant threat on the break and at set pieces. It was a quick break that put AFC Bournemouth back in front as they moved the ball quickly up the field to score. Then, in a crazy one minute spell, Ilana scored the second equaliser with 80 minutes on the clock. Just one minute later Blenheim were behind again, as AFC Bournemouth scored another goal. The last nine minutes were action packed, with two penalty appeals, two golden opportunities missed and the bar struck following a free kick from Captain Caitlin. However, with three minutes of the game remaining, Saskia slotted home the final goal of the game to earn a well-deserved point.
