Year 8 Boys Basketball Tournament

Posted on: 10/03/2022

On Thursday Eleven Year 8 Students represented Blenheim High School at an interschool Basketball Tournament.

Our first game was against St Andrew’s School. As some schools had dropped out last minute our games were 8 minutes with a half time in between. St Andrew’s started off the better of the two sides and were dominant throughout the game. Blenheim did struggle to get a footing in the game but were able to claim points against a well drilled and ruthless team. Unfortunately, Blenheim did lose the game.

The second game of the day saw Blenheim up against Epsom and Ewell school. The game was cagey with both sides cancelling each other out. Epsom did finish the first half the stronger of the two teams and were 5-2 up at half time. The second half was much similar to the first, both teams did cancel each other out, though Blenheim had several opportunities to bring the score back level, but were inconsistent in their shooting, fortunate enough Blenheim were able to secure two baskets in the second half finishing the game 6-5 winners

Blenheim’s third game saw them up against Ashcombe School. The game was much similar to the second with both teams cancelling each other out though also having chances to secure points, Ashcombe though were 4-2 up. The last two minutes of this game though saw a magnificent end. Blenheim threw caution to the wind and deserved a basket to draw level with Ashcombe at 4-4. Then with only 3 seconds left, up steps Benjamin Reygate who is able to secure a basket to take Blenheim 6-4 up with the buzzer sounding just after the ball as gone through the hoop.

The Year 8 team played very well securing two wins and one loss from three games played. The team should be very proud of themselves!
