Cross Country Competition

Posted on: 01/12/2023

Students travelled to Nonsuch Park this week ready to compete in the Central Surrey DistrictCross Country Competition. The Year 7 team were up first and were running 2.5km. Before the race, students revised their long-distance running technique, and the team were able to put this knowledge into practice with their excellent positions. For some of the team, it was their first ever cross-country competition, and for some, their first time running a longer distance! Joseph, Elijah,Poppy, Immie and Maisie were off to a fantastic start. They held their positions at the start and were able to gradually gain positioning. The team were rightfully proud as they crossed the finish line, and some were able to gain a position at the final 30m. Joseph finished 25th out of nearly 90competitors. Well done to the Year 7 team!

Aoife, Alana, Tilly and Abi were up next in the Under 15 Girls’ Race and were running 3.2km. Some of the girls were nervous at first, however, this quickly settled as they started the race. Tilly finished in 10th place, which is incredible! Liam, Finn, Archie, Jacob and Rocco were ready to run their U15 boys 4.6km race, which was three laps of the large blue trail. Archie finished in a very impressive 2nd place, followed by Jacob in 7th place. This means that they will go through to the next stage of the cross-country events! Last, but not least, was the U17 girls' race, which was also4.6km. Katie and Aoife stayed together throughout the race to help motivate and support each other. They finished in 14th and 15th place which are fantastic results!

I am very proud of everyone's determination and resilience throughout their races. The muddy ground and weather provided an extra challenge, but the whole team pushed through! We were all cheering for our teams as they completed each lap, which created a fantastic atmosphere. Iam looking forward to the next event!
