Posted on: 26/03/2025

Year 8 - Blenheim 2 v 5 Epsom and Ewell

After a great start from the boys, Blenheim took an early lead through George, who won the ball with a brilliant tackle before his shot took a deflection and found the net. The boys controlled the first half, linking up well and creating chances while keeping Epsom quiet. Their strong performance was rewarded with a 1-0 lead at half time. After the break, Epsom responded quickly with a spectacular finish to equalise. They then took control of possession and applied constant pressure. A skilful individual run and finish made it 2- 1, before a stunning strike from outside the box put them 3-1 ahead, leaving our goalkeeper with no chance. Chasing the game, the boys pushed forward but were caught out on the break. Epsom capitalised twice, playing through balls in behind our defence to score two easy finishes, extending their lead to 5-1. Despite tiring legs, Blenheim continued to fight, and their perseverance paid off with a late consolation goal to make it 5-2. Although the result was disappointing, the first-half performance showed the team’s potential. The boys played some fantastic football, and with improved fitness and game management, they will come back stronger. A tough match, but plenty of positives to build on for the next fixture.

Year 7 - Blenheim 0 - 2 Epsom & Ewell

The match started slowly, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm. A series of long balls from both sides created a disjointed opening period, with neither team able to establish control. However, it was EEHS who were quickest to settle into their passing game, keeping possession well and playing around Blenheim's midfield. Despite the pressure, the defence stood firm, with Karelle and Sonny preventing any crosses from the wide areas, while Tyreese was always first to the ball in the central defence. EEHS's persistent pressure eventually paid off when they managed to find a way through and score the first goal of the match. Despite the setback, Blenheim refused to back down. The boys began to find Stilian, who was providing an outlet up top. Blenheim showed moments of promise, beating the defence a couple of times but were denied by the goalkeeper. At halftime, the boys regrouped and were determined to turn things around. With a slight tactical change to utilise their speed, they came out of the blocks in the second half with renewed energy. Blenheim began to apply pressure, forcing EEHS into mistakes and regaining possession. This led to Blenheim looking more dangerous going forward, creating more chances to have shots on goal. However, as the game went on, intensity dropped, and fatigue began to show. The game became scrappy, with both teams struggling to maintain composure. EEHS capitalised on this lower intensity when Blenheim were unable to clear the ball from a dangerous area, resulting in them scoring their second goal. After scoring, EEHS ramped up the pressure, determined to add another. However, Oliver B made several crucial saves in goal, keeping the scoreline to 0-2. Well done to all the boys for not giving up and battling until the very last minute!
