Year 7 and 8 Girls Cricket Tournament
Posted on: 04/06/2025Year 7 and 8 Girls Cricket team performed extremely well in the NSSSA Kwik Cricket Tournament on 4 June 2025 hosted by St. Andrew’s and involved teams from 9 schools. The tournament consisted of 8 overs with 6 balls bowled per over. The year 7 and 8 girls batted in pairs with each pair batting for two overs and a new pair starting at the end of the second, fourth and sixth overs. Bowling took place from one end only with each player bowling 6 balls per over before rotating around other fielding positions. Georgie captained the team extremely well leading the warm up and pairings and there was great camaraderie between the girls who showed excellent support for each other throughout the tournament.
Blenheim 227 v Box Hill 253
Blenheim fielded first with Georgie and Megan H bowling in the first over. Fielding started slightly static which allowed Box Hill to capitalise on their runs, however Blenheim’s fielding did improve across the game as did communication which definitely helped to focus the fielders on working together and sharpening their throws and catches. Blenheim’s batting was really positive with many 4s being scored by Abi. Additional runs scored by Olive and Amelia who reacted extremely quickly and took advantage of some miss fielding.
Blenheim 229 v Therfield 238
The rain did not damped Blenheim’s spirit as they showed improved fielding skills with Olive, Amelia and Megan H performing excellent catches in deep field and Chloe bowling hitting the wicket twice in a row. Rhiannon came on as an impact player and used her throwing skills well to field the ball back quickly. Kate showed great strength and control in her batting and managed to direct her hits away from the fielders allowing Megan F to continue to run and score. Every run counts. Megan H and Georgie were a strong pair with directing the ball in a number of pull shots which is managing to hit the ball behind them which outwitted the fielders allowing more runs to be scored. There was excellent communication throughout this match.
Blenheim 237 v Three Rivers 214
This was by far Blenheim’s best game and congratulations to all of the girls for their resilience and determination to play on in the rain and come out victorious. Excellent batting from all players scoring on most hits with superb directional batting from Olive who varied her shots well and Kate and Abi for hitting with power and control. Megan H and Chloe showed improved confidence and excellent consistency with their bowling managing to hit the wicket 5 times between them. Rhiannon and Amelia communicated to the team well and was also fielding to the wicket keeper to help get players out at the opposite end of the field. Georgie performed three excellent blocks which thwarted the opposition batters from running and scoring. Megan F without question took her teams advice which helped her to successfully bowl and hit the wicket. Olive continued to catch batters out and performed the long barrier successfully to prevent 4s being scored.
Congratulations to all girls.
