Champions again! ESFA Under 18 Girlsâ Super League Final

The girls had the best possible preparation for the final as Blenheim and Shelly Motors, Epsom, very kindly funded an overnight stay in the ‘Hilton Garden Inn’, based near Stoke’s impressive Bet365 stadium. The team were able to get adequate rest, have a well prepared breakfast and spend important time together before the biggest game in the schools’ history. Having won the ESFA cup on 4 previous occasions this was the school’s first Super League final, a competition involving school and college Football programmes from across the country.
As the girls arrived at the BET365 stadium, it was heart warming to see so many families and Mr Bodell in attendance to support the team, giving the girls a real boost in addition to the occasion itself.
The game started with both teams looking to take early control of proceedings, families from both sets of players cheering on every tackle, pass and run. Chelsea FC Blenheim Elite were brave in possession in a nerve filled first half, sticking to their identity throughout. The nerves on the big stage showed, with Chelsea FC Blenheim not finding their normal rhythm, although still being the driving force in the game. Chelsea FC Blenheim Elite took the lead in the first 20 minutes. A strike from distance struck the arm of the Thomas Telford player which led to a penalty. Amy P showcased real composure to slot into the bottom right hand corner and settled some of the nerves. Thomas Telford reacted well by applying pressure on the Chelsea FC Blenheim defence, being direct with the Thomas Telford striker running into space when allowed. The Thomas Telford team were well organised. It was Thomas Telford who scored next to equalise, a fantastic header from a well worked corner kick went in off the inside of the post. With 10 minutes of the first half remaining, Blenheim started to take control of the game and created some really promising chances following the impact from substitute Alice who was causing numerous problems for the Thomas Telford left back. Saves from Orla also punctuated a good close to the half.
The second half started with Chelsea FC Blenheim dominance, half time instructions were followed and the team played with the freedom and talent that have shown so much success in all competitions.Chelsea FC Blenheim Elite took the lead to make it 2-1 with a great finish from Dior, Alice and Dani wontheir initial duals to feed Amy P who smartly helped the ball into Dior’s path. Ghana international Dior showed composure to finish passed the goalkeeper. Alice, who had come in as an early first half substitute extended the lead with the 1st headed goal of her career, a fantastic first time delivery from Iyna found Alice at the back post who nodded past the goalkeeper! Captain Mia, who had lifted the ESFA Trophy last year, was constantly driving the team forward, in football terms and with her leadership skills.It was Mia who added the 4th goal, after finishing from a calm set up from Zoe with her weak foot from 14yards out. A true captains performance on show. Ines rounded off a brilliant second half team display and made it a 5 star performance by meeting Alice’s cross at the back post, Ines’s instinct to arrive in a dangerous area earned her a memorable goal. Blenheim High School were crowned ESFA Super. League National Champions rounding off the most successful season in the programmes history adding the National title to a 2nd place finish in the National Football Youth League Premier, Surrey cup and Chelsea FC Post. 16 title.
